About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our animal team as a Mammal Keeper joining a dynamic, forward-thinking department.
The successful candidate will be expected to ensure high standards of animal welfare, following evidence led husbandry practices, carrying out daily checks and keeping records for the animals within their sections.
As part of your role you will assist with the preparation of approved diets and follow correct feeding procedures. Within your daily duties you will also clean and maintain the exhibits and report any defects or repairs required to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our collection.
Who are we looking for?
You will be able to work well as part of a team, have the ability to use your initiative, display an interest in and commitment to animal welfare and conservation, and must possess strong communication skills.
We are looking for applicants that have had at least three years’ experience working with a variety of mammals and experience working within an accredited zoo environment is essential. Working with category one carnivores would be an advantage.
What qualifications do I need? Applicants will be required to hold a minimum of a BSc in a relevant subject and the DMZAA would be desirable.
You will need to have good communication skills and be able to talk to the public and display great passion for your animals and conservation.
Hours: Keepers work ten days in fourteen to a fixed work pattern with a set day off during
the week plus alternate weekends off.
